I have an end unit of a row of townhouses.
The tenant called and said there is a major cockroach infestation in a unit four doors down. Today she noticed a cockroach in her unit.

Does anyone know of any good traps or gels or where these products can be purchased in the golden horseshoe area of Ontario. Purchasing them over the internet would also be good. From what I read, the products you can get at the big box stores are essentially ineffective.

I am not against calling in an exterminator but before doing that I will need to get all the unit owners on board so we can spray all units and eliminate the problem.

Any advise or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have never had a cockroach problem, so not sure how good the stuff is against them, but pretty much anything else with six legs I use a product called Doktor Doom. Find the residual spay and try giving the perimeter of the house (especially adjoining walls) a shot. It is a premium product, and costs between $20-30 a can rather than the typical $8 for Raid, but definately cheaper than an exterminator and worth a shot. I've used it for ants, flies, and mosquitos (spray around the door frame every 2-3 months in the summer and they won't try to get in the house nearly as much). Supposed to be good for bed bugs too, I believe.

I just survived a cockroach problem in one of the apartment buildings I manage. We used Maritime Pest Control. 3 of the 17 units had cockroaches. I was the one who discovered them when I was showing a suite that a tenant had just moved out of. I called my Mom and told her there were lots of bugs but I didn't know what they were. She immediately came over to look. We immediately called Maritime Pest Control. I posted a notice to all the tenants after speaking with the pest control specialist to let them know we would be spraying and pasting in ever suite. I gave them only 4 days notice in order to prepare the suites. The suite that I discovered the roaches in was sprayed 3 times, each a week apart. Others only once. That was about a month ago. I have spoken to the tenants in the affected suites and the roaches are gone.

When dealing with these kinds of pests you need to be proactive. Get a professional and act quickly.

Yes (or possibly condo board if condo depending on specifics, not normally tenants)
Try phoning Rentokil to see if they can help. If  not, email me and I'll forward you additional contacts (not sure on cost premium for them to get to Hamilton for you)
Cost - It depends. Phone companies for quotes.
