I have a foreign JV partner. How do I go about this?
Hello,
This is my first joint venture partnership. My JV partner is a foreigner. My question is how do I avoid problems later when we decide to exit on this investment property with regards to the new purchaser witholding a large amount for taxes because one of the owners is a foreign person. Is this a big problem? I do have enough money of my own in my bank account to cover the 25% down, plus closing costs, including reserve. So what is the best way to go about this? Should I form a company? A partnership? Should I purchase first myself, and then sell 50% share to JV after? Will this avoid the foreign withholding problem?
any advice would be appreciated. thank you.
