Apartment Building - Would you Install Security Camera in this area?

Hello,
A tenant in our 10-plex complained his mail is missing. This happened to him 5 times already. No other tenant complained.
Do most apartment buildings have a security camera where the mailboxes are near the main entrance?
Do you recommend installing one per tenant's request?
Is it the landlord's responsibility to secure the area with a camera?
At least one of the cases was found to be the mailman's mistake where he put the tenant's mail in the wrong mailbox and another tenant received it.
Thank you

No and no. Is it not a mailbox that requires a key?

I have had tenants in the past say that someone stole there mail. I find it hard to believe because why would someone steal their mail? also you need a key to get into the mail box. When I looked at my mailboxes none of them had been tampered with.
So my answer would be no you don't have to put a camera there and you are not responsible for it either. You do have locked mailboxes. I would say that's all you need to do.

Mail theft is quite common, especially on welfare cheque mail arrival days.

Yes security cameras would help. Once you have a face on camera talk to the RCMP. VERY effective.

Yes, I think you need to install a video surveillance system. As a wise man once said, “Prevention is better than cure”.

I'm with Kristopher on this one, and for 10 units this cost is not justified in my opinion. If anything check the lock to the mailbox or get the lock changed. For me theft from laundry machines was/is a big issue but not considering cameras, yet..

If you do go for cameras it's worth it to go for a web-enabled version and make sure you super-secure your recorder if you have one. Crooks are often smart enough to find them and take them leaving you with no pictures.

For me too in another location. How did/will you resolve your laundry machine theft problem?
Thanks

I had this problem of my laundry machines getting broken into and I locked my laundry rooms so only my tenants had access to them . Since I did this I have had no issues with my machines getting broken into

Several years ago, I bought an inexpensive wireless security camera system from Best Buy. I have moved the camera from place to place as it was needed (only 2 times so far, but they were real problems). Mail missing 5 times is an example of such a problem. The next time it happens, scroll through hours of video and see what happened (if anything).
