Irving, TransCanada to build $300 million New Brunswick marine terminal



CALGARY, Alberta (Reuters) - Irving Oil and TransCanada Corp (TRP.TO: Quote) said on Thursday they will build a $300 million marine terminal at Canaport in St. John, New Brunswick, to enable Canadian producers to export oil sands crude to world markets.

The joint venture was announced on the same day as TransCanada's plan to build a 1.1 million barrel per day oil pipeline to ship Western Canadian crude to refiners on the East Coast and beyond.

Imagine Nova Scotia as a prosperous boom province with busy ports, a thriving offshore oil and gas industry, a global innovation centre for alternative energy research and development and a networked community of startup enterprises.







I know. I know. It seems over the top. This is, after all, Nova Scotia with our laid-back lifestyle, beautiful coastline and our perennial `have not` provincial distinction.

More focus on pipeline research





EDMONTON ` At least three governments and two energy industry groups are leading what they hope will be a `pan-Canadian` approach to find ways to improve the country`s pipelines.



As three controversial megaprojects generate headlines across the country, the Canadian Pipeline Technology Collaborative is to look for ways to make the system safer and more efficient, said industry spokeswoman Brenda Kenny.

Deep Panuke gets OK

July 2013 Halifax housing starts






HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA`(Marketwired ` Aug. 9, 2013) -
Housing starts in Halifax, Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 2,391 units in July compared to 2,871 in June according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup]1 [/sup]of housing starts.




`The pace of housing starts in Halifax slowed last month,` said Tim Andrews, CMHC`s Market Analyst for Nova Scotia. `Despite the reduced pace in the overall trend, starts in the multi-family segment were strong in July,` added Andrews.

PEI unemployment highest in country despite job growth




P.E.I.`s unemployment rate was the highest in the country last month despite an increase in the number of jobs in the province.




The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show the unemployment rate rose 0.9 percentage points to reach 11.8 per cent in July, which matched the year`s high from January.

Moncton renters offered perk as vacancy rate jumps




Some landlords and rental companies in the greater Moncton area are being forced to find creative ways to attract renters as they deal with a high vacancy rate around the city.




In the last three and a half years, 1,700 new apartment units have been built in the greater Moncton area, which is roughly the same amount of apartments built in the seven years before that.

Nova Scotia government offers Truro dairy plant $7.5 million to expand




TRURO, N.S. ` The government of Nova Scotia is offering the Scotsburn dairy plant in Truro $7.5 million in an effort to help the company expand.




The province is giving $2 million to help the company buy new machines that will make premium novelty ice cream products.
