January 2013 housing starts in Halifax
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA`(Marketwire ` Feb. 8, 2013) - Housing starts in Halifax, Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 4,309 units in January, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup]1 [/sup]of housing starts.

New Brunswick's jobless rate jumps to 11.3%
The New Brunswick economy added 2,700 jobs in January, but the unemployment rate jumped to 11.3 per cent, according to Statistics Canada.
The monthly labour force report offered a mixed bag for New Brunswick. The unemployment rate jumped past 11 per cent in January, up from 10.8 per cent in December.

Moncton set to lead province in economic growth
Moncton is expected to break into the top 10 metropolitan economies in Canada in 2013, according to the Conference Board of Canada's winter outlook.
Moncton is also set to lead the cities in Atlantic Canada this year in economic growth.

Shale gas is a boon for New Brunswick
The federal Environment Minister is voicing support for shale-gas exploration in New Brunswick as the province struggles to avoid being left behind in the Atlantic region`s pursuit of energy resources.
Peter Kent acknowledges that having a `drill rig in one`s backyard is not the most pleasant of visions` but added the potential economic benefits to a province like New Brunswick `are significant.`
