Shipbuilding contract steaming along





The federal government has authorized Irving Shipbuilding to begin work on the next two tasks related to the first contract of the national shipbuilding contract.








Justice Minister Peter Mackay and Public Works Minister Diane Finley hosted a news conference at the Irving Shipyard Thursday to announce the next multi-million dollar step towards construction of an undetermined number of Arctic Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPS).

January 2014 Halifax housing starts





HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Feb. 10, 2014) -
Housing starts in Halifax, Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 1,638 units in January compared to 2,012 in December according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup]1[/sup] of housing starts.

Bell Aliant to build data centre in New Brunswick





Bell Aliant Inc. and the Province of New Brunswick plan to build a new world-class data centre in Saint John, N.B. Bell Aliant will build the $25-million facility, offering data centre capacity to meet current and future needs of New Brunswick's robust ICT (information and communications technology) sector.





The Province of New Brunswick will contribute $5-million to the project. New Brunswick Premier David Alward joined Karen Sheriff, Bell Aliant president and chief executive officer, for the announcement in Saint John.

Nova Scotia goals for new immigrants called too restrictive





Nova Scotia is the place for you if you`re an industrial or mechanical engineer, nurse, doctor, health-care manager, are computer savvy, or in any one of several trades.





That`s the message the province is trying to get out to prospective immigrants under its new immigration program, which becomes effective March 6.

Housing starts in Halifax





HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - March 10, 2014) -
Housing starts in Halifax, Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 1,571 units in February compared to 1,638 in January according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup]1[/sup] of housing starts.





"The pace of residential construction in Halifax trended down marginally in February," said Guillaume Neault, Senior Market Analyst with CMHC's Atlantic Business Centre. "The overall slowing pace was largely attributed to reduced activity in the apartment market," added Neault.

February housing starts in St. John's





ST. JOHN`S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR`(Marketwired ` March 10, 2014) -
Housing starts in St. John`s, Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 1,845 units in February compared to 1,829 in January according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup]1[/sup] of housing starts.





`Residential construction activity in St. John`s trended higher in February,` said Chris Janes, Senior Market Analyst with CMHC`s Atlantic Business Centre. `Single-detached starts advanced marginally compared to the same month a year ago, while there was a significant increase recorded in multiple starts,` added Janes.
