QUOTE I told them not bother with HD.

I keep seeing this in this thread, so I thought I`d pipe in. We recently renovated a condo here in Calgary, and we used cabinets from Home Depot. It looks stunning. When we had showings, potential tenants would walk into the kitchen and say "wow", and then just stand there and look for a while.

I found the prices to be good, and they were easy to assemble.

In fairness, I should note that we bought the flat pack ones and assembled and installed them ourselves, and didn`t find it difficult. We didn`t consult with anyone at the store, nor could we have gotten any help if we had wanted it. We also had to go to two different stores to get the sizes we wanted.

So I would say for Home Depot:

Service: F
Product: A
Price: B

It really depends on what you`re looking for.

QUOTE (craigw @ Mar 28 2010, 11:47 AM) My advice is stay away from Rona and Home Depot for cabinets. I am building a house for a customer this summer and sent them to a few cabinet shops for quotes. I told them not bother with HD. They went anyway and met with their "cabinet specialist" who basically told them she didn`t want to give them a quote unless they were sure they would buy their cabinets there. basically she didn`t want to do any extra work. And when I ordered cabinets from Rona for another house they forgot to order three boxes and doors and were 5 weeks behind schedule. My earlier post explains why I like Ikea, another good option is KitchenCraft cabinets.

I`ve been looking at either Rona (Maple Creek RTA) or Home Hardware (Kitchen Craft RTA). Do you think the KitchenCraft are better than the Rona product? Or is it just that you didn`t find the service at Rona very good.

I`d love to go with Ikea, but they`re 350 km away (700km roundtrip), and if you have to make more than one trip to get the cabinets/accessories, it becomes more expensive than a local product very quickly.

I don`t have any problem with either product. The hardware on their lower priced cabinets is not as good as Ikea but it still works OK. I have kitchen craft cabinets in my home and they are fairly decent. My complaint is the service and the delivery times. I will say however that service varies greatly from store to store. The kitchen designer I had to deal with at Rona was terrible. Hopefully the guys in Kamloops are better.
