Petronas hopes to start construction of LNG terminal in Canada in Sept

KUALA LUMPUR: Construction of Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) multi-billion ringgit liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal project in Canada is expected to start in September.

“We are awaiting the final environmental certificate. We are hoping by this fall. All of the other prerequisites have been dealt with now,” said British Columbia (BC) Finance Minister Michael de Jong.

Shift to multi-family homes nails lumber market

EDMONTON - Stock markets charged higher Wednesday for a second straight day as bargain hunter moved in on hopes that the painful recent pullback has run its course.

Toronto’s lead index gained 224 points and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 121 points, helped by an uptick in oil prices, a rebound in China’s volatile stock market, and signs that U.S. economic growth is picking up.

CFB Comox to get $30 million to upgrade and repair base

CFB Comox will undergo major repairs and upgrades to its military facilities and infrastructure in the next two years.
The Canadian government is investing nearly $30 million to improve 19 Wing Comox.

This significant news was scheduled to be delivered by Associate Minister of National Defence Julian Fantino, and Vancouver Island MP John Duncan at the Comox base on Thursday afternoon.

“On the growth front, we are well on our way to provide producers with a solution to weak liquids prices,” said chairman and chief executive David Cornhill on a conference call to discuss second-quarter results.

He said the Calgary-based company could invest over $1 billion over the next two years in B.C., including the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) plant on the coast, the new fractionation facility worth about $100 million at Fort St. John and its previously announced $350-million Townsend gas plant in northeastern B.C., along with associated pipelines.
