Saying hello to Nova Scotia for a reason

In the last quarter of 2013, only two Canadian provinces didn't lose residents to other regions. Alberta was the big gainer, welcoming 5,663 new residents to Wild Rose Country's parallel-universe economy.

The runner-up was`wait for it`Nova Scotia. Two thousand four hundred and sixty-five people left and 2,736 arrived, for a net gain of 271 newcomers. For the first time in years, more Canadians moved to Nova Scotia than away
. Two thousand fourteen's numbers aren't out yet, but I know one person in the positive tally: me.

Survey says Moncton a good place to base your business in Canada

In 2006, George Donovan was debating where to base his new video game studio. His options were a variety of locations in Europe, or Moncton, in his home province of New Brunswick.

Repsol eyes US $2B LNG export plant at Canaport site in New Brunswick

Repsol SA is considering building a US$2-billion plant on Canada`s Atlantic coast to export natural gas, as Europe seeks to reduce its dependence on Russia for the fuel, a person familiar with the matter said.

Spain`s biggest energy company would erect the facility at its existing Canaport LNG plant, which was designed to import liquefied natural gas and is underused. Repsol may include the export project when updating its strategic plan next year, according to the person, who asked not to be identified discussing a private matter.

Housing starts and sales slow in Atlantic Canada

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - May 22, 2014) -
According to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation's (CMHC's) Quarterly Housing Market Outlook - Atlantic report, housing starts in Atlantic Canada are expected to decline close to ten per cent in 2014 and a further four per cent in 2015.

"Weak economic growth and negative net-migration will limit demand for housing and result in fewer housing starts and sales in Atlantic Canada in 2014 and 2015, said Alex MacDonald, Regional Economist with CMHC's Atlantic Business Centre. "Multiple-unit starts, including apartments, are forecast to decline 15 per cent in 2014 and ten per cent in 2015. Single starts are expected to fall five per cent in 2014, while remaining virtually flat in 2015," added MacDonald.
