Maritime regions continue to lose their young people
The warning signs have been there for years ` the story of the province`s waning youth is growing old.
The latest numbers in reports released Tuesday in Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Lunenburg County and Wolfville show that those regions have continued losing their young people. And those that stay behind, particularly on the island, struggle with climbing rates of unemployment.

Newfoundland oil find opens solutions
If you haven`t recently found oil in your own offshore basin, the next best thing is probably for your neighbour to find it in theirs.
So last week`s announcement of two oil strikes by Statoil and Husky Energy in Newfoundland`s Flemish Pass Basin looks like good news for Nova Scotia, as well as for Newfoundland and Labrador.

EI stats drop in Atlantic Canada after changes aimed at seasonal work
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - A disproportionate drop in employment insurance recipients in Atlantic Canada suggests federal EI restrictions are having a negative impact that will only get worse as seasonal industries lay off staff, critics say.
"Those changes target seasonal workers," said Erin Weir, an economist with the United Steelworkers Canadian national office. "We've already seen in the data that the number of employment insurance recipients has been cut more sharply in the Atlantic provinces than nationally.

Halifax home prices continue to rise
HALIFAX, Oct. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - The Royal LePage House Price Survey released today showed healthy year-over-year price increases across all housing types surveyed in Halifax.
Standard two-storey homes and standard condominiums posted strong year-over-year price gains of 5.9 per cent, landing at $329,333 and $214,000 respectively. Detached bungalow prices saw a more modest increase of 2.0 per cent to $299,000.

HST blamed for housing starts dive on PEI
There's been a significant downturn in the residential construction industry on P.E.I.
Since April, the number of new housing starts has dropped by nearly 50 per cent compared to the same six months last year, down $32.5 million.
