Economy 'on its way home': Poloz





OTTAWA and VANCOUVER -- Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz is painting a brighter picture for the Canadian economy while tossing aside concerns over a housing bubble.



Canada is on its "way home" to more natural economic growth as central banks prepare to reverse nearly six years of low-interest rate fuel, he said Wednesday.

OTTAWA ` The Canadian economy is expected to pick up in the third quarter as rebuilding of flood damaged areas in Alberta and the end of a construction workers strike in Quebec are expected to boost growth, according to the Royal Bank.




But espite the improvement, Royal Bank chief economist Craig Wright said business investment spending and exports are expected to remain hesitant. `For the global economy and maybe in particular for Canada`s economy, if it weren`t for bad luck we`d have no luck at all,` he said.

Fiver years after the financial crisis, Canada's recovery remains mixed





Five years ago this week, Lehman Brothers collapsed, sparking a global financial crisis and a seven-month recession in Canada. A half decade of healing the economic wounds have shown mixed results; the patient is on its feet, but in places, scars remain.




Some aspects of the economy recovered more quickly than seemed possible in those tumultuous autumn days of 2008 ` retail spending, for example, took only a short dive before bouncing back as low borrowing costs gave consumers the confidence to spend. Other measures, such as exports and Canada`s jobless rate, have been slower to recuperate.
