Remember, too, that you`ll have to pay tax on any appreciation in the price of the house since you bought it, as it`s a rental property and not your principal residence. If it hasn`t changed much in price this is not an issue.

I did a refinance on my properties last year to take advantage of the low rates being offered. Now I`m wondering if I can claim on my taxes the penalty charged to end the old mortgage. Anyone know?

I think it also depends on who the mortgage is with. I remember ING allowing me to refinance the mortgage with them. I basically was allowed to make it a 25 year mortgage again. Payments were the same but I was able to pull out some money. I think your best bet would be to get a HELOC...

There are an unbelievable number of rentals available in Calgary right now. Just have a look on kijiji.ca and you`ll see what I mean. And prices are way, way down. This is horrible for someone with a property they`re trying to rent (like me)...

If you can generate a 36% return on you money in the stock market, like you say you can (consistently?), why would you ever bother with the headache of real estate? You`ll be a billionaire within a few years with that kind of return.

I wonder if it would be possible to somehow add food colouring to your water at the source. This would be an excellent and simple way of knowing if any of your water is ending up at the neighbour`s place.
