Closure will hit tourism in Whistler
Whistler Mayor Ken Melamed said yesterday there are thousands of tourists in Whistler on any given day.
"I`m guessing there are between 15,000 and 20,000 people here, including 10,000 visitors. And we know there are people impacted, unquestionably."
He said business will be hurt if the road is closed up to five days, as officials are predicting. "People in business will see a reduction. And it`s unfortunate [if the highway`s closed next weekend] because this will be one of the busier weekends of the summer."
