21st[/sup] century giants GE & Google have joined forces that will revolutionize North America with state-of-the-art smart electric grids. GE engineers calculated that if only 7 percent of the land area of Arizona were covered with GE PV 165 photovoltaic modules they would generate enough electricity for the entire United States.
Currently billions of dollars are being invested in the biggest solar play covering 405,000 hectares in Western Nevada in which Google is a major investor. It is expected to produce 33 gigawatts twice what the state of California consumes in electricity in a year.
Israel has launched an electric car venture and are in the process of setting up hundreds of thousands of recharging points throughout the country.
In the US at least 25 cities are gearing up to power electric vehicles.
