Hi All,

For townhouses, owners are not allowed to change the exterior of the building or add an extension to their townhouses.

Does anyone know if the same laws apply for a duplex?

thanks

I think you are referring to "Condominium" Vs "Freehold" ownership. Not all townhouses are condominiums and not all condominiums are townhouses. As a first step you should determine which category your subject property falls into.

If it is a condominium, you will have restrictions contained in the condominium documents. However, there could also be restrictions with freehold buildings, especially with respect to additions, you should check with the local building department to see what is possible.
