Hood fan required in Alberta?

I've noticed a lot of older homes don't have hood fans over the stove. Our house for rent doesn't have one either. Is it required to have one in Alberta? There is a window and a door both very close to the stove so the ventilation doesn't seem to be a major issue compared to a more enclosed area.

Hood fans or over the range microwave with fans are required in new houses/suites, or an air exchange system. It is now code to vent to the outside (used to be able to re-circ with a charcoal filter) If you want to improve your place, definately a consideration. there are no hood fan police checking in existing places, but if you ever need to get it inspected for legal suite status, you will more than likely have to comply with that now
