How do we make Ontario Landlord friendly?

As we all know L&T Board for Ontario is not very landlord friendly. You can only take a deposit towards last month`s rent. It can`t be used for the gazillion damages they might do and any bills they leave unpaid etc. following them around in courts trying to get justice is a costly affair and usually futile as you can get a judgment but that doesnt mean the tenant ill pay you really.

and now they have increased the fee for the Eviction application form from $150 to $170! who controls this board and how can we as investors try to make them a little better for landlords! its like we`re at the Tenants mercy or the L&T Board`s.
You can`t raise rents more than a measly 1.8% (if at all) this yr but they can increase the fee by almost 14%!!!??? That just doesnt make any sense.

Who do we appeal to / write to to try and get some changes favoring the landlords-faster evictions, fairer practices, lesser costs for us-judgments from the board directly instead of going to courts separately....

Thanks Greg! Ive posted on it.
I think all landlords in Ontario must contribute and try to do something about this.

No late fees can be charged
It takes months to evict a tenant
Its virtually impossible to collect unpaid rent
High fees for forms/procedures but only for landlords not tenants
No damage deposit can be taken-why not have a $1k damage deposit allowable and if you keep it all you need to give them is proof why you had to withold it-that`ll make them think a bit before they decide to break a bannister or crack a window pane carelessly.

If we as landlords don`t try to change things we only have ourselves to blame eventually. we must try in whatever legal and allowable way to change things for ourselves.

RAora - There are associations that advocate on behalf of landlords.

Federation of Rental-housing Providers of Ontario (FRPO)

Those are only a few of our problems on Ontario. One of my biggest issues is the fact that tenants get free legal aid from bottom feeding dirt bags that skulk around the LTB board and most of the adjudicators seem to relate to them on a personal level.

Does anyone have a link to the requirements and application process to be an adjudicator?

How about voting for a pro-landlord government? And joining your local landlord association for political lobbying?

Even the "conservatives" are handing out our money .. so what is a left-leaning US or Ontario going to do: impose more rules, impose more taxes, restrict trade, support aging industries, be more inward looking, rack up debt, thus create higher interest rates, thus attract less external or new investment, thus create less jobs, thus: go deeper into recession or take longer getting out of it !

Go west Young Man (or lady) !! GO (or invest) WEST !

Vote right .. or move !

W-Canada is open for business !
