More than 10,000 reasons why the TSX recovery is real

Call it what you will. A bear-market rally. A dead-cat bounce. A mini-bull. The rebound across all sectors that has carried Canada`s benchmark index to a 32-per-cent gain since bottoming out precisely two months ago shows signs it may have legs.Whether it will resist an inevitable correction and remain above the psychological 10,000-point barrier it crossed last week for the first time since Nov. 4 is another matter.
The recovery has already exceeded the expectations of most analysts who figured it would have petered out long before now. The breadth of the rally from the March lows has been startling, providing North American markets with their best two-month performance in nearly 35 years.
But should we be surprised that the markets are finally coming up for air after plunging 50 per cent from their all-time highs? Not really. The recovery was bound to take hold eventually, we all knew that, and with the recession now in its 17th month, it was just a matter of time before the rebound showed up.
