I have much respect for REIN and how well it’s grown over the years. I do not have the level of reach to help as many people as I would like so I thought I would take a moment and highlight an important subject I think REIN could shed some light on for its members in the coming future. With the internet and the amount of connected devices we use on a daily basis we open ourselves up to a new threat, as Investors we deal with sensitive information about ourselves, employees, clients and investors. As the Internet of things (IOT) grows so does our threat level of a cyber security/ social engineering attacks. Over the past 2 months I have been doing some research on this subject and the number 1 person in the world in Cyber Security is Kevin Mitnick and the number one person in Canada is Ron Deibert of CitizenLab in Toronto. Both of them have written great books to help the average person/real estate investor protect themselves better online.

A few good initial first steps to take:

1. Initiate the Two Step Verification security option on, Google, Facebook, Twitter, online banking, etc.
2. Anti-Virus Full Security Software for up to 5 devices
3. Virtual Private Network (VPN) $100.00 per year
4. Use a Password manager
5. Find out if you have been a victim of a data breach by going to you will be surprised…

Great books that blew my mind: The Art of Invisibility by Kevin Mitnick and Black Code by Ron Deibert

I sent this to our Executives. They agree, GREAT ideas, very important.

We will be adding it to our master content list and see if we can incorporate this important topic in a live event or as part of the REDFile. Watch for it!
