A buddy and I joked a year or two ago that we should buy some land and set these up as student rentals.

I know of a company that's interested in using sea containers for building lower-income housing in and around Edmonton. It's kind of amazing what they can do with these things.

This company currently uses sea containers for building mock villages for military training, etc.

You can laugh. My second year of university I was working 50 plus hours a week for just over minimum wage and going to school full time. I had nothing and ate whatever seconds I could find at the grocery store. When I looked at my budget I realized that most of my income went to rent. I seriously looked into buying an old cargo van and living in it. I just couldn't figure out how to not freeze to death in the winter. But for that one issue it seemed like a fantastic idea.

When I saw that SNL skit I laughed so hard I cried.
