Whether it is traversing the skies at 120km/hr. while skydiving 10,000 ft above the Earth, studying the intricacies of spinal cord injury research, or delivering an enthusiastic speech to city council, Greg Gillespie routinely demonstrates his passion, determination and an uncanny ability to focus in all his endeavours.
After graduating from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, Greg continued his graduate level studies in Vancouver, BC and Irvine, California. Although Greg gained many valuable skills as a graduate student, he soon realized that his true passions and freedom lay outside the academic and scientific realm.
Making a conscious decision to turn down the opportunity for a PhD, Greg began applying his skills to his home and hobbies, turning part of his home into a thriving, family-based daycare that his wife operated. Greg’s love of hockey, collecting memorabilia, and comic books presented him with another great business opportunity through buying and selling items through such venues as eBay. To date, he has completed over 200 successful business transactions online, further improving and systemizing his customer relations, accounting and inventory management skills.
Greg is a firm believer in being committed to the enhancement of his local community and giving back wherever possible. He is always looking for new ways to expand his community involvement with a strong desire to contribute to his entire community, not just his neighbourhood alone. Greg doesn’t believe in just voicing complaints about issues; he actively positions himself where he can facilitate discussion and be part of the solutions. His involvement with the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay Campaign is an example of Greg’s dedication to his community. Greg was part of a team that raised over $21,000 total in a two years, placing them in top spot for most money raised by small business two years in a row.
Since investing in real estate, Greg has been recognized as a Gold REIN (Real Estate Investment Network) Member; received the Top 10 Player BC Award in 2007, and was featured in the top-selling book, 51 Success Stories Book from Canadian Real Estate Investors by Don Campbell. He helped purchase over 100 units of residential real estate and raised over $1.3M in investor capital and $7.7M in bank financing in just 3 ½ years.
Greg has gone through an incredible paradigm shift that has seen him grow both personally and professionally. Over time, Greg became more aware that his ambitions and dreams were being hampered by the usual “go to school, get good grades and get a good job” advice. Having the courage and support to “take action,” Greg has chosen Real Estate and Entrepreneurship as his vehicles to financial freedom.
