Lynda and I started our investing together in real estate in 2002. She had previously owned both sides of a duplex and lived in one and rented the other, and I had rented rooms in my personal residence, but the townhouse condo we bought was our first together.
We read Don Campbell's book in 2006 and joined REIN in 2007.
Our original thought of "if we could ever have five rental properties paid for in our lifetime, that would be our retirement" has certainly mushroomed from there... Lynda quit her job in teaching and is now looks after our business full-time. I have remained employed full time at Calgary BMW as one of those people who are lucky enough to enjoy my work. (Edit: as of Nov/13 Lynda and I are on a one-year travel/family leave of absence - want proof that REIN's fundamental teachings work? Edit again: in May/14, I gave my formal notice to the dealership advising them that I was not going to return, and walked away from a high-income, new demo - at the expense of many hours - nineteen year career in sales management)
