Career
I was trained as a Computer Engineer and have worked in software design, development, deployment, and maintenance all my career.
I started in software telecommunication equipment for telephone companies and banks. Most of what I did has now been replaced with standard Internet equipment, but it was ground breaking at the time. I have worked at all levels of software design: user interfaces, applications, database, devices driver, and everything in between.
For much of my career, I was associate with small information technology companies and start-ups, which is high pressure and has an extremely high failure rate. I have been in management for almost all of that time. All of my work since 1992 has been as a consultant, though I have stayed we some companies for fairly long times. For 15 years, I was a contract instructor for IBM, teaching IBM AIX system administration courses. And eventually came to despise business travel.
As of 2009, I have left computers for good due to health issue related to stress. I am looking for work or start-up opportunities in Penticton.
Family
I was born in Vancouver, as were my parent. My great grandfather move to Vancouver from Italy in 1906. In 1996, I had 140 relatives in Vancouver, but since then many have passed away and others have been born. Although I will always feel Vancouver is home, I find it to have grown too busy.
I am married to Katherine Cook (another REIN member) and have been with her since January of 1986. We have a son Connor who in High School. Katherine and I went to University of Victoria together. We have bicycled much of the way across Canada from Vancouver to St. Johns. We loved cycling through BC along the Crows Nest the best. We are no long avid participants but are devoted to the outdoors.
In 2005-2006, the three of us lived in Vichy France. April 2011, we moved to Penticton for a change in lifestyle. We loved the tertiary town we lived in in France and are hoping the Penticton will give us a similar experience.
