Real Estate Investment Courses - Opinions

We started by reading the ACRE book by Don. Once I had this it made perfect sense to go to ACRE weekend and then of course to join REIN as the event is free. Don't confuse the course fee that you pay for the quality you will get!! REIN ACRE is great as there is no "sell" just a system and...

Let`s Share RE Business iPad/iPhone Apps

Pocket Informant is hands down the BEST personal assistant software that you can use on both iPad and iPhone. It will also sync with outlook via a 3rd party interface but it works great. You can have your tasks, contacts, calendar, notes all in one place. I love it and have been using since the...

    Snow removal and your tenants

We find it much easier and more reliable to hire someone to do it for us. It isn't really that much of an expense out here on the East Coast. For this winter so far $45 is all we have had to pay but it is also a quiet winter so far (please don't let me jinx us!)

Starting out thoughts on east coast investment?

Hi The reason there isn't much talk about the East coast is that there aren't many REIN members out here! Halifax has extremely strong fundamentals and there are some recent news articles about the ship building contract we won in Oct 11. This is one link to an article in the Chronicle Herald...

Ontario Moves To Cap Rent Increases!!!

I own properties in Hamilton and also here in Halifax, NS. With all the restrictions on ON we are looking more at Nova Scotia as we not only have the ship building contract to bring people here for jobs but we also have no rent controls!! We have a free market for increases in that if you...

Can I realistically be successful investing from abroad in Canada?

I agree with Thomas. We have been comparing our smaller duplex/triplex portfolio with a thought of "trading" it all in for one bigger one and currently it makes no financial sense as we would get less cashflow! The education is key as well as a team that you trust implicitly! And I mean REALLY...

    Why join REIN from Montreal?

Hi Lothar, I am a REIN by post member (2 years) but I do try to get out to either the ACRE or another "event" during the year. The biggest benefit I find is the CD recordings. It is like being there but you can skip what you don't need to hear and get to the best bits and listen to them over...

Can I realistically be successful investing from abroad in Canada?

Hi Jay, We bought our first property (now our principal residence) when we were still living in the UK so it can absolutley be done. It is all about having a team you TRUST in the area where you are looking for those strong fundamentals that will make your investment a great deal. Once we...

Halifax : A City with a Very Bright Future!

Hi Everyone, Don mentioned at last Thursday's REIN ON meeting a small thing that has changed the course of Halifax's RE Investment market - a $25 billion ship building contract! Like I said, just a small thing! Irving Shipbuilding, Halifax Shipyard was awarded the main combat contract under...

    Canadian Accountant?

Depending on where you are you could use George Dube www.dubecuttini.com/ or Navaz Murji http://www.realaccountant.com/. These are the 2 main guys that REIN members tend to use and both own real estate themselves

tenant wanting month to month lease after 1 year term expired

What does the local residential tenancy act say? I know in Halifax the tenant has the right to do this once they have been there a year on a yearly lease and you can't refuse! BUT....you can also give them a 90 day notice of rent increase. Here it is 90 days as that is the notice period they...
