Inflatable swimming pool - allow or not allow in the backyard of a rental house?

Not sure about Alberta, but in Ontario the same laws apply to inflatable pools as any other pools, fencing etc. w

ROB - Living with the giant down the street

I`d rather buy a product that is quality made and lasts for ten years, than pay 30% less and have to replace it in 6 months. It ends up costing you considerably more in the long run. The majority of people these days, however, display shortsighted behaviour. They just see the lower price on the...

ROB - Living with the giant down the street

and when you lose your job at the local production facility because everybody is buying Chinese crap, you can still aways get a minimum wage job as a greeter at sprawlmart. Buy quality, buy for life. Buy Canadian, buy for livelihood. w

    Mutual Fund MER`s

I said to my wife tonight, I`ve never seen a real positive return from my rsp`s. So, the question for me is, is there any way to invest the employer portion (DCPP) in something other than your average mutual fund? w

    Creative Deal

To me, 25% seems kind of high if you`re assuming all the risk, guaranteeing his investment. 15% year over year is still a very nice return, if your client has risk aversion, and might motivate him to seek the greater rewards by sharing the risk. I wonder how his investments in the stock market...

Drug dealer in my Calgary rental?

Could be a case of neighbours having a dispute of some sort, and one saying "I`ll get him, I`ll get him evicted, that ****!", which leads to them writing your letter. Anybody that would threaten your family`s safety in an anonymous letter isn`t deserving of much respect or credit, and probably...

    Canada invests in mortgages!

Unlike in other countries, they`re not buying up bad mortgages to bail out banks, but good ones to free up capital for the banks. Played right, the government could actually make money on this deal, though, I`m sure they`ll screw it up somehow. w

    Ontario Rent Controls

Here`s a link to an article that came out in January 2008, about Ontario rent control and a building in Sudbury. I don`t know if this has been posted here before, but I don`t remember reading about it. http://www.northernlife.ca/News/LocalNews/...y=01-11-08-rent I found the comments after the...

rates... go long fixed or short variable?

The rate increase in Ontario is set by the government annually and is based on the inflation rate, so if inflation takes off, then you can raise your rents accordingly.

Direct Buy --does anyone have experience with this company?

We went to their open house in Waterloo. They wanted $3000ish to join plus an annual fee. There was a lot of pressure to join, which to me sets off alarm bells. If their product was really so fantastic an opportunity, there`d be no need for pressure at all. When we opted not to join, the sales...

    Power/heat Consumption

I saw a show a while back about a new student residence they were building (can`t remember where). As part of their "Green Initiative" they installed all the windows with switches connected to the thermostat. Open a window, the heat shuts off. No idea of the cost of this type of installation or...

Help I think I have a drug house?

QUOTE (cassj @ May 29 2008, 03:37 AM) I told him that I never heard of cable running through an electrical panel and that I would not be giving him access. (am I wrong?) In a lot of houses, cable and phone junctions are in the same location as the electrical panel. I wouldn`t just give them...

    CNN Special: Oil @ $300/barrel and gasoline @ $4/litre

Hmmm... makes you think. How is the Manitoba sugar cane crop this year? Don`t have much of a strategy that way except to continue investing in properties where the tenants pay heating costs. I get a little bitter when I see windows open and the furnace running, and I doubt that things will...
