    Strata no longer allowing rentals

Where do you draw the line between "circumstances" and fraud? Seems to me that you were cut some temporary slack and now you feel entitled. Are you not bound by the various contracts (mortgage, occupancy) related to the property?

Water Bill Doubled Following Neighbor’s Work on His Property

QUOTE (terri @ Jul 1 2009, 09:17 PM) Neil, how old is the house in question? this may be very different from your situation, but with older houses sometimes the water line for one is on another property. For instance, in my personal residence, circa 1885, I had a wet spot in the basement...

Water Bill Doubled Following Neighbor’s Work on His Property

Regarding the water. Your bill is a reflection of how much water goes through your meter, and the water/sewage rate. Even if he tapped into your line, it would be before your meter. Likely usage and rate has increased. Check for obvious waste (taps, toilets, gardens, leaks, teenagers showering)...

    Efflorescence

It is caused by water wicking through the bricks/mortar carrying dissolved salts. It can often easily be scrubbed off with water and a stiff brush. It will likely recurr until the source of moisture is removed.

    Ontario Landlord`s Beware

The woman in the story apparently did everything by the book to evict. But she did EVERYTHING WRONG beforehand. She was clearly inexperienced going in and accepted marginal tenants because she thought that she was `gauranteed` rent by ODSP. What a crybaby!

Neighbour`s letter is Accusing my Tree`s Roots of Causing Fungus in their Flowerbeds.

I believe it is their responsibility/right to remove any branches that overhang their property and drop needles etc. Other than that, unless the tree is causing some kind of structural damage, they`re trying to take advantage of you.

Do basic home maintenance courses exist?

$200 bucks to change a flapper? Must be that baby face! Was it a plumber or handyman? A skilled, honest handyman can save you lots of money. A hacker may cost you. Sometimes you just have to jump in, and then learn your way out. Start doing some smaller things yourself and you will learn and...

Noise issues if I use laminate flooring throughout?

Are you making your decision based on cost? Comfort? Durability? I would have to agree that the carpet is probably the best way to go upstairs for comfort and noise. Also, that any spills or wetness will quickly ruin laminates. People often choose laminate flooring because they think it`s...

$1000 to repair minor crack in ceiling

It really depends on how much of the drywall and insulation needs to be replaced. If it`s very localized to the "5 inch crack", then you may be lucky at ~4-$600. However, it could be worse than it looks. 1000-1500 might get you a whole new 10x10 ceiling.
