    Coalition summary

QUOTE (JohnS @ Dec 3 2008, 07:56 PM) An acquaintance of mine is a blogger for the Globe, and he pointed out something that everybody seems to have missed. When the Bloc promised to support the Coalition (note: they`re NOT in the coalition, but have only agreed to support it for 18 months), they...

QUOTE (Dan_Eisenhauer @ Dec 3 2008, 07:06 PM) Alan, you and I have been listening to the same news programs. Here is what I heard: 1) No mention of additional transfer payments to Quebec 2) A denial by both Dion and Duceppe that Senate seats have been dedicated to the Bloque 3) The Bloque has...

    Government to be ousted....

The new goverment is most likely comming. The question is ,how is it going to affect your Real Estate holdings or other investments? Over the long run the goverment of the day has limited or short term effect on the economy. In 2 or three years supply and demand will pick up and our resorces...

    Government to be ousted....

QUOTE (GarthChapman @ Dec 2 2008, 01:10 PM) You're kidding, right? No, there will be enormous pressure from Layton who wants to shut down the oil sands and from Dion who wants to tax them heavily enough to pay for all his green initiatives. Remember that a Camel was actually a Horse...

    Government to be ousted....

Unfortunately I havn`t had time to read all the post but was wondering what the gereral view was on how this will impact the Real Este price in Alberta. Do you think the new goverment will encourage the rigs to drill more thus creating more jobs in Alberta?

It`s about time Canada grew up

QUOTE (GarthChapman @ Dec 1 2008, 01:05 AM) I think that most would agree that our Prime Minister`s move on the funding of political parties issue at this time was both opportunistic and ill-advised. But let`s also recognize that the governing party has a great advantage in this ill-advised...

    Government to be ousted....

QUOTE (JohnS @ Nov 30 2008, 11:12 PM) I understand what you mean, Jack, and to a certain extent I agree with it. The other parties do need to get better at raising funds in this way, and I'm pretty sure I've stated that before. My biggest complaint has never been about the idea of changing...

QUOTE (JohnS @ Nov 30 2008, 09:19 PM) You're ignoring a few things, though, like the fact that people need dollars to speak. Money helps the spread of ideas flow faster. If you don't believe me, go start up your own national paper, or tv network. In today's society, communication costs, and it...

QUOTE (rforgiel @ Nov 30 2008, 06:09 PM) I can't believe how many times the NEP keeps coming up in these forums. The NEP happened before most members were born. Is this some kind of mythical lore that gets passed down from generation to generation. What is the relevance to today. Regards...

I second the "Awww, poor Liberals! ". Nobody seemed to care when the PC party had problems and it was a one party system with the Liberals at the head.

Could we convince Ed Stelmach to postpone the new Royalty plan

QUOTE (GarthChapman @ Nov 29 2008, 08:25 PM) They only come back when the economics make sense for them. They are in business to make profits. By the way - if we had saved more in our Heritage Fund during the good times we could spend some when it rains. Like Noraway has. Last time I saw...

Could we convince Ed Stelmach to postpone the new Royalty plan

QUOTE (Dan_Eisenhauer @ Nov 29 2008, 05:17 PM) I am not knowledgeable enough about the oil and gas industry to comment on whether the Royalty changes are good or bad for the industry and/or Alberta. I do know that the Albertan economy was super heated and needed to cool down. Wages, prices, etc...

QUOTE (JohnS @ Nov 29 2008, 03:45 PM) Yeah, I`d buy that. I mean, it`s not like Harper hasn`t proven and re-proven himself to be a bully, time and time again. Unfortunately, too many people have interpreted that negative behaviour of his as "leadership". Have a good one, all! JohnS For those...

QUOTE (thomasbeyer2000 @ Nov 29 2008, 11:15 AM) Harper is smart .. and surrounded by smart people ... he would have anticipated that the 3 parties don`t like the withdrawal of federal funds for their parties .. and thus, major howling .. and as such we either get a re-election in a few weeks or...

    Government to be ousted....

Many enter politics for the contacts which lead to money later . Most have good intentions until they get to office. Maybe we should have a limited time to serve like 8 years then retirement. Getting back to real estate, over the long run supply and demand rules the day .

Could we convince Ed Stelmach to postpone the new Royalty plan

Maybe Mr. Stelmak could spend the massive Heritage fund they are hoarding. I can`t understand why a goverment should have a massive saving accout. Alberta business could use the cash to expand. As far as the oil companues go, they have left before then come back a few years later in droves.
