A Couple Applying to Rent - 2 Credit Reports and 2 Rental Applications Required

Hi Everyone,

A non-married couple is applying to rent a 1-bedroom apartment. She is working he is not. For those who pull potential tenants` credit reports, would you pull both credit reports or just hers and put just her as the one responsible for rent payments?

Same question regarding filling the rental application itself – would you require both to fill that or just the lady who is currently working?

When we have a couple, married or not, each fill out an application form and we pull credit on each of them. We want the credit checks to both be good. You don`t want the one with the good credit to move out and leave the non-responsible person left in your suite. This we learned the hard way.

Always get all adults (including children over 18) on the app and lease. Pull checks on everyone, talk to their references and also see how long they have been together.
