Hi guys,

Came across this the Real Estate Investing in Canada book throuh Steve McKnight`s coaching program and then discovered this site and forum. Was wondering if there are any Australian investors hanging around in this forum :-)

Sorry mate, not an aussie but my husband is a kiwi and I lived in NZ for a couple of years. Then we came to the conclusion that Alberta is the best place in the world to invest and we headed back to Canada.

Are you investing in Australia or Canada?

Hi Sherilynn,

I went in a sort of a opposite way, though mentally: we considered to migrate to Canada first and than settled in Australia :-) We did not consider investing obviously at the time

I am currently on my way to start investing there where I live, that is in Victoria, Australia. A while ago I was considering buying positive cashflow properties in the US or NZ, however decided not to go in that direction in my early stages of investing. There is enough to learn while investing locally, although in the current market in where I live (Melbourne suburbs) one has to be creative in order to reap profits.

We recently spent some time in Australia, and absolutely LOVED Melbourne. It`s the only other city I`ve ever visited that I`ve seriously considered moving to. When I looked at the local real estate listings (as I do everywhere I go) it seemed that prices were very high compared to rents. It seems you might need to find a specific niche where you can make profits. Some on this board have had good luck with student housing, rent-to-own, etc.

I was also very interested with all the condominiumized office and retail spaces. There might be some sort of opportunity there, although I`m not sure precisely what it would be.
