SASKATOON, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - April 10, 2015) - Housing starts in the Saskatoon Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 3,063 units in March compared to 3,150 in February, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup](1)[/sup] of total housing starts.
"The trend in total housing starts edged lower in March following a declining trend in both single-detached and multi-family starts. The current pace of housing starts is in line with CMHC's expectation that rising inventory and moderating economic fundamentals will prompt local home builders to scale back production in 2015," said Goodson Mwale, CMHC's Senior Market Analyst for Saskatchewan.

Nonetheless, the current pace of construction is similar to the pace set in March of 2014 and is supported by stable employment and positive migration," said Dianne Himbeault, CMHC's Senior Market Analyst for Winnipeg.
Saskatchewan stops pension funds from buying farmland as prices rise
Saskatchewan is clamping down on the sale of the province’s farmland to Canadian pension funds and other large institutional investors, restricting deep-pocketed groups at a time when land prices are climbing.
Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart said Monday that Saskatchewan will review provincial farmland ownership rules. In the meantime, pension plans, administrators of pension fund assets and trusts will not be allowed to purchase land.
Winnipeg sees mixed real estate market in first quarter of 2015
WINNIPEG, April 15, 2015 /CNW/ - The Royal LePage House Price Survey released today showed varied results across the three major housing types surveyed in Winnipeg.
The average price for standard two-storey homes saw a strong year-over-year increase in the quarter, rising 5.5 per cent to $342,880. Detached bungalows and standard condominiums both fell on a year-over-year basis, dropping 0.6 per cent to $304,534 and 5.0 per cent to $195,905, respectively.
Regina home prices soften during the first quarter
REGINA, April 15, 2015 /CNW/ - The Royal LePage House Price Survey released today showed year-over-year price decreases in the average price for detached bungalows and two-storey homes in Regina, while condominium prices saw a slight increase.
The average price for single-family homes in Regina depreciated in the first quarter, with detached bungalows dropping 5.4 per cent year-over-year to $306,500 and standard two-storey homes declining 1.8 per cent to $349,500. Standard condominiums meanwhile remained relatively flat, increasing 0.7 per cent to $216,500 over the same period.
