Its raining in Canmore today so I thought I would do some research on the Calgary Elector vote and stumbled across this TED-X video by one of the candidates. I won`t get into my thoughts on the election other than get involved or shut the hell up for the next 4 years!

In this video Naheed talks about Calgary from a demographics point of view. Very enlightening! This should help investors in many ways, what types of homes they are buying, who they are marketing to and how the city is changing. Again, no opinions here.....the facts are the facts.

Enjoy and I hope it helps you make more informed investment decisions.....and make sure you vote this fall!

Thanks Wade,

Very informative. Calgary`s mayoral elections are very important to all real estate investors. The city`s financial management, the current council`s blunders and bickering is no good. We need someone to clean this up. To elect one of Bronco`s old council members will not do. They are likely to protect each other, and I wonder if therer are not some hankypanky deals going around that should be dealt with in the court rooms.

So, we need (in my opinion) a skilled outsider. Barbara Higgins comes to mind for many Calgarians. A former reporter with a career in Calgary municipal news, she is well known and knowledgable plus she is well liked. Barbara also has some management skills that she picked up in the news room, where she also was well liked. But what is her platform, her vision, and does she have the skills to lead this city?

Naheed Nenshi, who works at Mount Royal has a lot of knowledge of Calgary`s municipal affairs and as the videos show he has an excellent vision as to where Calgary should go. Being a Mount Royal Lecturer who grew up in Coral Springs, NE Calgary, and a person who have lived in a number of large cities until early 2000, his are good credentials. But how are his management skills?

Finally, if there is a Vote split between Nenshi and Barabara, is this going to benefit the old stalwarts or just old warts
?

Things to be considering when we make our choice this fall. If we all give our opions here on this forum, we can show that REIN is a force to be reckoned with. So Calgarians real estate investors, let them hear what you think!

Yes I am not sure that any of the top runners have the full package to do what this city needs. Jon Lords is all about Jon. Barb doesn`t have the political skills. And Naheed is probably a little to liberal for Calgary (unfortunately).

I think you hit it bang on with the vote splitting comment. We will probably see an old wart in there!

Have you found any site that outlines who all of the candidates are and their platforms?

Really? That`s not my impression at all, and I`m at least as far right on the political spectrum as the average Calgarian. (I voted for the Wild Rose Party last provincial election, for example)

He actually seems like a pretty practical guy with some good solutions, which is something this city really needs. I read through his platform on his website and agree with basically all of it.

He mentioned in that video clip that we can choose what path we take forward. It seems to me that he might be the right guy to help Calgary bridge its way into becoming a world class city, instead of becoming a small thinking prarie town with a large amount of people.

I haven`t seen anything like this and would love to. I`ve seen a lot of rhetoric, lots of campaigning but very little hardline answers and plans for change.

I`d really like to see `standardized` campaigning. Like a big questionaire that all candidates must answer so that we can compare them to each other. Give them 100 `points` and see them allocate them towards housing, transportation, education and crime etc.

Sadly, I feel we`ll have another weak voter turnout and more of the same.
