I just wanted to post a note to let everyone know that I have first hand knowledge of what is predicted to happen to Calgarys growth due to the expansion to the Calgary airport. I work for a company that has the contract to haul the powder cement to the airport the company laying the new runways have put in there order for the cement and it is 98000 tonne of powder cemnet for the airport this year. It is predicted that Calgary will have direct flights to China, Aisa, Germany, other countries, and YYC is wanting to get 75% of the freight traffic to land in Calgary first.
If you watched the program about a year ago it was called "Fight Plan YYC" it was a documentary on what is predicted to happen to Calgary in the next 5 years. Calgary is predicted to grow very fast due to the Direct flights to other countries. Calgary is preparing to have the Airbuses and the big Boeing planes to land in Calgary. The terminal is being double layered to accommidate these massive planes, a new control tower is being built and is half way finished. The new runway is over 4 - 5 kms long. The project is 5 years long and from what I have heard the face of Calgary is going to change due to new people coming from other countries and other provinces.
