The rental housing vacancy rate in Regina has improved but not quite enough to make a big impact.
A new housing outlook report from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation shows the city is seeing a microscopic improvement in the number of available units.
After roughly a year at 0.6 per cent, the rate has inched up to 0.8 per cent, as of October.
Moose Jaw unemployment rate lowest in Saskatchewan
The unemployment rate in the Moose Jaw and Swift Current region was the lowest in the province at 2.9 per cent last month. Statistics Canada data shows that is down a full percent from the previous month and it's down from the 3.3 per cent unemployment rate at the same time in 2011.
$50 million committed toward food security insitute at University of Saskatchewan
SASKATOON ` The province of Saskatchewan and PotashCorp are committing $50 million over the next seven years towards the Global Institute for Food Security (GIFS).
The institute, located at the University of Saskatchewan, will look for solutions to feed a growing world population, applying Saskatchewan`s unique resources, innovation and expertise to address the need for safe and reliable food.
`Food security remains our biggest challenge as populations increase and diets change, putting immense strain on food production,` said Bill Doyle, president and CEO of PotashCorp.
Canada's overall apartment vacancy rate has risen over the past year, with an increased supply of rental units and a slowdown in household formation by Canadians being cited among the reasons.
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. says the average vacancy rate in 35 major metropolitan areas across the country rose to 2.6 per cent in October from 2.2 per cent in October 2011.

Estevan Saskatchewan facing challenges of economic boom
The demand that comes with Saskatchewan's booming economy is causing constant strain on people living in one of the province's most prosperous cities.
Sitting on the edge of one of the hottest oil fields in North America and located minutes away from a multi-billion-dollar SaskPower expansion project, Estevan, population 11,000, has developed a Canada-wide reputation as the place to go for people seeking work.
But the rapid growth has left some companies struggling to find skilled workers and made it hard for people willing to come to Estevan for work to find housing.
