We have recently joined a home buyers group, for a large price and construction time advantage. While investigating, I have found no such other alliances of these factory direct housing groups. What pitfalls should I be wary of while attempting to utilize this advantage?

The usual due diligence on any new home purchase, like builders' warranty, workmanship, quality, ..
try to see some of their previous work.
if you buy a new home, there will always be deficiencies. The only questions are
a) how big are these deficiencies
b) how will they deal with them
A poor builder will not fix them at all, or make your life miserable.
Check the quality/strength of the home warranty program. What province is this ? Ask the local realtor associations or home warranty folks what they have to say about this firm.
