Hi,

I am planning to hire a snow contractors to remove the snow this winter for my parking lot. I got a few referrals in the area. What are some questions that I should ask?

One obvious one is what much the price is. Some others I can think of is, "what equipment do they use?", "how many houses do they shovel per route?"

Any other suggestion?

Thanks,
Lucas

Do they have insurance? Get copy. Do they have WSIB? Get copy.If you have a large project ask to be named as an additional insured on their policy. It cost the contractor nothing to do this & protects you as the property owner from slip & falls or accidents due to the Contractors neglect. What time will they arrive to clear snow? How much snow has to fall before they clear? How much extra to remove snow from site if there is no room to pile? How much to salt/sand? Hope this helps a little.

Doug has a good answer
I`d like to stress re salt is a HUGE thing
Some of the companies scam this
Even one`s that don`t the cost can be excessive
Ie some underquote and then charge a ton for salting during the season which many purchasers of the service don`t price in.
I try to go with companies that offer an inclusive price
Also might want to think of additional costs and availability for walk way / sidewalk clearing
Note snow placement / removal can also be an issues - Seen a few (other people`s) buildings get flooded this year from snow piles melting nearby.
