Hi folks - a friend of mine has been a REIN member for several years and has encouraged me to join. But I live in Ottawa (my friend lives in Toronto).

For me, one of the main benefits of REIN would be the opportunity to network in-person with like-minded people, and discuss local buying opportunities. I`m wondering if there are any Ottawa-based REIN members on this forum who could let me know how REIN membership has benefited them (?)

Thanks for your time.

Hi Moe

I live in Ottawa and joined REIN in June 08. Its a good place if you`re seriously looking at investing in real estate-no short term goals here though pls-careful due diligence steps are stressed and many a good things have been learnt since I joined. I have to be honest though-for the full benefit-you MUST go attend at least a few sessions of the monthly workshops in TO. the optimism is real and meeting with people just like us who used networking to learn info here and make informed decisions to buy property is worth the money you pay.

if you`re going to invest close to a quarter of a million odd $s min let`s say to buy even a single property, the membership is worth it I think. but go to a meeting and speak to people if you can-its very positive!

There are local real estate investment clubs in the Ottawa area that you could also join in conjunction with remaining a member of the forum.

There`re two types of membership: regular and by-mail. If you don`t think you can attend any meeting, you can sign up for the "by-mail" membership (which is cheaper). You keep all the CD recordings that will be mailed to you (with printed presentation). The only drawback is that you do not get to meet with people in Toronto. If you`re interested in real estate investment locally in Ottawa, there is a local group in which they meet every month, with presentation from lawyers, members, bookkeepers, realtors, etc. The format is similar to REIN, but it`s local and you can meet the people. Some people there are REIN members too (like me
).

Thanks,
Lucas

Rasna, Greg, and Lucas - thanks very much for your advice. I will certainly check out OREIO - and will probably end up joining REIN, too...
