I`ve been reading investment books lately like Multiple Streams of Income, Start Late Finish Rich, and Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. They all end up pitching the services of a financial coach (in each case the author). They all recommend real estate, but they also look at other types of investments.

Has anyone looked into any of these services and is it necessary in addition to our real estate investment? I like the idea of working with a coach, and if it would add to what we are already doing or help us focus/develop strategy, etc, that would be great; however, the marketing for these coaching services all looks the same. They talk to you to see if you "qualify" to work with the expert, which I recognize as a marketing strategy. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this sort of thing.

I know that working with a coach is costly, and that is not a problem provided the relationship takes us where we want to go. If, however, it`s just another useless product, I`m not interested.

I noticed the discussion re: the Donald Trump seminars, and I know of people who attended recent Robert Kiyosaki seminars and wished they hadn`t. Just wondering if anyone out there has been this route before.

Thanks,

I did the robert allen one. Wouldn`t say I got my money`s worth out if it but the guy we worked with was genuine and did provide us with a lot of help. They offered a money back guarantee and the whole bit.

Problem was he wasn`t familiar with Alberta or the legal system. He was from the US.

Had I had access to the REIN forums at the time I wouldn`t have done it. There are many true experts on this forum that can help you!

The time will come when you will feel your business is "plateauing" That can be a good time to meet with a coach or a consultant to help you take the next steps.

Are you a self-starter? I don`t have trouble getting motivated to act on real estate (research, offers, travel) because I`ve had my own wake-up call & want to accumulate as many properties as I reasonably can in the shortest time possible. If you need someone to kick your butt you decide how much you`re willing to pay for that & if an external coach is even going to get you to act.
As for the advice, I find the experts & colleagues via REIN are no match for U.S. "experts" or even one Canadian coach who cannot possibly have the breadth & depth of experience that 5-8 real estate professionals via REIN network can offer me. E.g, Jules, Andre & Mark Loeffler has advised me on Ontario areas, property mgr., strategies, marketing, bid pricing; Jas Grewal educated me on the new CMHC program so I can aggressively invest w/out any of my money, etc. NO SINGLE Canadian can offer me what 8-12 guys with combined 20+ years of local experience can. You just have to figure out the right questions to ask & who/how to ask it - but a coach can`t help you there either.

Get clear on what YOU want from it.

For example what are your main challenges or areas you would like to change.

eg
1) I would like to raise x dollars this year to buy x properties
2) I would like to develop a crystal clear strategy for the next 5 years
3) I want accountability by having my ass kicked

From here you can then approach some offerings with a clear picture of what you need and be better equiped to see if there is a fit.

Also check in with yourself and ask how ready you are for real change. I meet people all the time who want different things from their life but do not want to make the changes to get it.
