My husband Dorien and I attended the full-day Joint Venture Workshop this past Saturday in Edmonton. We both had high expectations and when we "checked-in" with each other at the lunch break, we were both pleasantly surprised that our expectations had already been exceeded. Barry`s no-nonsense approach and expertise with the legal realm was exactly what we needed. We now have a much clearer picture of what we want (and don`t want) in our JV agreement. We also realized the importance of reading our JV agreement a minimum of 6 or 7 times to not only understand it inside and out, but to be able to explain it to others, including our JV partners. The second half of the day was facilitated by Philip McKernan... what a fantastic speaker, motivator, change agent... and likely one of the best salesman in the world. Phil`s ability to communicate, read others, provide brutally honest feedback, and help others identify their personal barriers to success was simply priceless. The experience he brings to the table (especially sales), the analogies and stories he shares, and the interactive learning style he uses makes the workshop incredibly powerful. Perhaps what we found most valuable was both Barry & Philip`s genuine DESIRE to help others succeed and truly believe that we could achieve amazing results. One of the biggest benefits we found was the "personal atmosphere" that was created with only a dozen participants. This allowed all questions to be addressed and it gave the facilitators a chance to get to know all the participants and really give us relevant and practical feedback. If you are struggling with JVs, or you`re scared to do your first Joint Venture, or you simply feel like you`re not sure what your next step should be to grow your real estate portfolio, I would highly encourage you to consider this workshop. To close, we were challenged to write 3 actions we would take as a result of the workshop:

1) Find an Accountant that is a better fit before Dec 31, 2008
2) Finalize our first JV Agreement draft before Jan 31, 2009
3) Close our first JV deal by May 31, 2009

Thank-you Barry & Philip for taking the time to teach & motivate others... we feel privileged to be riding on the wings of giants.
