Report says Atlantic exporters should benefit from U.S. recovery in 2014
HALIFAX - The Atlantic Provinces Economic Council's annual economic outlook says the Atlantic region should benefit from stronger demand for exports in 2014.
The report says a forecast from the International Monetary Fund predicts world growth will increase from 2.9 per cent in 2013 to 3.6 per cent in 2014.
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - Nov. 8, 2013) - Housing starts in Halifax, Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) were trending at 2,734 units in October compared to 2,462 in September according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR)[sup]1[/sup] of housing starts.
"Housing starts in Halifax trended higher in October," said Guillaume Neault, Senior Market Analyst with CMHC's Atlantic Business Centre. "Residential construction activity continues to be supported by activity in the multi-family segment, specifically the apartment-rental market," added Neault.
The unemployment rate in New Brunswick dipped more than half a percentage point in October, but not because there are more people working in the province.
Statistics Canada reported Friday that the province's unemployment rate for October stood at 10.1 per cent, down 0.6 percentage points from September.

Landlords fight for renters in Halifax's apartment glut
New apartments are popping up in Bedford, but landlords say there aren't enough people to fill them, so they`re relying on creative tactics to compete for renters.
