I am going to Regina to help my senior inlaws with some property issues (6 with maintenance and or tenant problems).

I have been in the construction industry for 25 years (mostly renos). My father in law is a cautious man and has concerns with the quality and cost of contractors prices. My plan is to fly in and do inspections on these properties. I will then help him decide which repairs are required and the costs associated with them. We will decide which of then need to be repaired and rented out and which to be sold. My thoughts are that I will be able to order the materials (kitchen cabinets , counter tops, flooring and such) when I am there then in two weeks return with truck, tools and installers.

My questions are :

1 Can any one help me with the name and number of cabinet and counter top manufactures.

2 I would also be interested in finding a knowledgable Real estate agent that is experienced in the sale of rental properties.

3 I would like to find a property management company that has the ability to explain their benefits in such a way that my father in law would be sold on the idea that his time would be better spent on golfing than chasing rents and looking for quality tenants.

Thank you in advance for your help. I have a high regards for this site after following it for a few years.

Is he planning on putting custom cabinets in a rental? Countertops too? If it were me... I would do self assemble from Rona or similar. The Rona on Victoria east there is massive. It puts the one here to shame. And home depot is right next to it.

Thank you KFORT for your response.

You are correct it does not make financial sense to install a high end custom kitchen in a rental. But some of these homes could be sold to homeowners not just for rentals.

In my experience in Kelowna, you can purchase mid quality pre-made cabinets here for the same price as Rona build your own. Plus time is important, it makes more sense for me to be installing pre made then spending the time to put together Rona "u build". I can buy pre-made laminate counter tops for close to the same price as the materials for build your own, plus they would come with a preformed back splash.

Ah I gotcha now!

I would look at Rona's prices on laminate tops still, you may be
surprised! The one here has a ton of pre-made laminate tops so the
Regina one should have an even better selection.

I don't have a ton of help for you unfortunately. However the following article was recently in the news and my parents were directly affected by this situation.
