Sask NDP proposes Rent Control

I love how they figure they can do two completely different things at the same time. Let's control the rent, keeping it under what the market would sustain, but at the same time ask everyone to increase the number of units available. I'd love to hear their ideas on how they're going to ask investors to give more supply for less price.

I was just going to post a link to a news story on this. My take is that Dwain Lingenfelter has officially sealed his fate. He had little to no hope of winning the election this fall, and now he has little to no hope of retaining his job after he loses. Though I do get the impression he will have the sense to fall on his own sword prior to it being a required by the party following the giant flop of their upcoming campaign. It seems like he is grasping at straws, especially without any follow up on how he intends to successfully counteract logical economic principles such as increasing available rental accommodations while artificially dictating the price.

Bottom line, I'm not worried... yet. The NDP have ten years before they will be in power.

I'm not really following... Do people actually believe it is politically palatable for a party to come out and say:

Government focus in rentals should be mainly on life safety issues to allow for a competive market providing a large supply of high quality varied housing types to flourish?

Is this realistic? Is this what the public really wants to hear and will ensure there votes?

The truth is sometimes sad....
