I just about got tripped up on this one so I thought I would let others know about it and also ask if anyone knows anything about the bylaw.
I went to the City of Calgary website and downloaded the new bylaw that apparently takes effect on June 1, 2008 which deals with, among other things, secondary suites.
Imagine my excitement when I saw the new land use designation "R-C1s" which allows secondary suites and thought that this was opening a huge door for those that want to have secondary suites.
Unfortunately, I mistakenly thought the "R-C1s" was referring to a group of R-C1(`s). That is not the case. R-C1s properties or communities allow secondary suites but that is not the same as R-C1 which doesn`t allow them.
The question I have is for you REIN members is, does anyone know if there are any R-C1s in Calgary? Or is this just a game of the City`s to make us think they`ve actually changed something? I`ve asked the bylaw people and they can only tell me on a property by property basis, not a district or area basis. And every property I`ve checked so far in areas that I would think should support secondary suites, are only R-C1.
Thanks for any feedback.
