Manitoba home sales sizzle in August




WINNIPEG ` Winnipeg`s resale homes market came within a whisker of posting its best August ever for property sales.




WinnipegREALTORS Association said today that 1,290 properties were sold last month through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS).




Not only was that a 27-per-cent increase from a year earlier, when 1,016 homes changed hands, but it was just three properties shy of the August record of 1,293 set in 2005.

Saskatchewan economic growth to lead nation




Saskatchewan will be the top province in terms of economic growth through to 2012, says the latest provincial economic outlook report from RBC Economics.




Because of gains in agricultural and potash production, the province's GDP is forecast to grow 4.3 per cent in 2011 and 4.1 per cent in 2012, said the report, which was released Monday.




"Saskatchewan looks like it's going to be leading the country in growth once again," said Paul Ferley, assistant chief economist with RBC. "Things certainly seem to be going in Saskatchewan's favour. It's a tough economic environment nationally and certainly, there are risks out there. But Saskatchewan's been benefiting from natural resource prices remaining high, as well as the break they got in the weather."
