Sewage backup problem

I just had small sewage backup in my Edmonton property. The plumber came last night and his snake was actually stuck in the sewer line and could not get it out. He said it is very likely the pipe is broken somewhere along the line. I call the city and they sent someone but they could not use the camera to detect where the problem is due to the snake issue.

This is the first time I have this issue, so my questions are:
1. Should the plumber be responsible for taking his snake out?
2. What companies can take the plumber's snake out of the sewer line?
3. What appropriate actions I need to take at this point?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I would say if the plumber wants his snake back he is responsible for removing it. If it was my home and the plumber does not remove his snake I would then happily be the new owner of a plumbing snake.

As far as removal is concerned you should be able to do it yourself by simply trying harder than the plumber. Twisting it forward/reverse and pulling will eventually dislodge it for removal. If it went in and got stuck it will come out by applying greater force.
