hello everyone,

I am aware of smart metering for larger buildings with many units, however, is there an ability to apply this concept to 2/3/4 unit buildings economically? I had a friend ask recently about this and I did not have the answer.

If there is this ability, (at an economical level), It is great to make residents responsible for their usage of energy.

Thanks,
00donal.

Hi 00donal,

I'm not sure what province you are asking about.

I believe it is a plan to convert whole province of Ontario to smart metering by 2010 (do not remember exact year). So, it will be done by utility company (and they will charge every "happy owner" about $700 for this device). I agree that tenants should be responsible for electricity usage and all you can do to force it is to install separate meter for each unit.

Sub metering is another option discussed at:

Best regards,

Boris

Thanks Boris,

question is though, is this initiative for multi residential or not, I can't imagine them imposing this on existing smaller houses with 2 or 3 units by 2010. They are enforcing it for condos for sure and possibly all new developments.

I will check out the direct energy link, looks like it's a good fit.

thanks Boris.
