Hello REIN,I think it would be very beneficial for many to start a discussion about recommended books. To start I would like to offer my list of books from the top of my head:Real Estate:
    • Rich Dad`s Cashflow Quadrant
  • The Power of Focus: How to Hit Your Business, Personal and Financial Targets with Absolute Certainty
This shelf could be a good place for "book of the month" recommended by Mr. Don.

Boris,

Thanks for this list. What a great idea to post this information so others can find out about these valuable resources. I would like to ask though, the book Is your mortgage tax deductible. I have heard good things about it but havent read it yet. Is it a Canadian Reference and where could I get a copy.

Thanking you in advance.

Hello,This is a great idea and I too would love to see Don`s monthly book recommendation posted here.

For new investors, I always recommend starting with Rich Dad Poor Dad
by Robert Kiyosaki. It provides financial knowledge and a framework to establish long term goals.

For visual learners, a very fun book is Change the Way You See Everything Through Asset-Based Thinking
by Kathryn D. Cramer and Hank Wasiak.

Cheers!

QUOTE (mortgageman @ Oct 29 2007, 12:16 AM)
Here's a great one that gives solid perspective about the importance of living within your means. After all, it doesn't matter how much you make if you spend more.

http://www.yourmoneyoryourlife.org/

Napoleon Hill's classic "Think and Grow Rich" is a must-read at least once a year. And his "Law of Success" is just as relevant.

Several postings above George Hutchings asked if "Is your mortgage tax deductible?" by Fraser Smith is a Canadian Reference and where he could a copy. You can order it online from Fraser's website at http://smithman.net/order.html. It can also be found cheaper on Chapter's website at:

http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/The-Sm...aser+Smith%2527

Fraser Smith is indeed a Canadian (in Victoria), and our U.S. counterparts have no need for such a strategy since they've been able to write off their mortgage interest for years.

This is definitely one you should have in your toolkit George, since we've used it successfully with our investors to develop customized solutions for them. Imagine their surprise when you can bring that kind of knowledge to the table as a sophisticated investor! If you need any help implementing this strategy please let me know.

Good luck!

For those of you that like fiction.

"Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand

Also Non fiction "The Virtue of Selfishness" by Ayn Rand

Also a must read by my favorite author Nathaniel Branden "The Six Pillars of Self Esteem". This is a fantastic book that in my opinion, should be taught in schools. This book could change how successful you are in life. Many people in my family have read this book and agree with me. We all think it`s a must read for our children.

About Income Tax, I have found some good suggestions with the book "The 10 secrets Revenue Canada doesn`t want you to know" by David Voth. You can see what applies for your situation and consult a professional (lawyer, accountant, financial planner).

For Personal Development, I suggest any book or audio book from Jim Rohn. My husband and I had the opportunity to be in one of his two-day seminar and that was excellent!!! Not to mention that he was the mentor of Les Hewitt (The Power of Focus).

For entrepeneurs "The E-myth revisited" is a MUST, and also if you want to get deeper "E-Myth Mastery" from Michael Gerber.

I`m currently reading "Real Estate Riches" by Dolf De Roos. It is good comparing the real estate with other investments. However, if you want to take action Real Estate Investing in Canada by Don Campbell gives you more structure and direction.

Hi Boris,

Good post......... something a lot of investors need...... more insights on investing and the business in general...... for the well seasoned investor and the rookie alike......

A book I just finished recently, which completly fits with part of what I`m trying to achieve right now, is called "The 4-Hour Work Week" .......... Its a little off topic from Real Estate Investing but fits perfect with "Lifestyle"........... and not just for the Rich and Famous.......

I reccomend this book to anybody who wants to do a little more & work a little less....... without giving up on anything financially........ Maybe a particularly good read for the beginner investor so they don`t get caught up in the trap of working a little too much in the beginning and thinking they`ll take that holiday when they have a little more time....... because for many people that time never comes.... or at least not often enough.....

Anyways have a look.

Cheers,

For the new investor/entrepreneur, The One Minute Millionaire by Mark Victor Hansen & Robert G. Allen is a fun read. The left hand pages are tips and advice for entrepreneurs and the right hand pages are a fictional story about a woman needing to turn her life around.
http://www.amazon.ca/One-Minute-Millionair...4978&sr=8-1

It is an inspirational read and especially helpful for someone with a negative view about money. They combine the Butterfly Effect with their idea of Enlightened Millionaires.

QUOTE Enlightened Millionaires understand...they must create wealth where everyone wins. When they focus on adding value, what happens precessionally will be positive.
Hansen & Allen

Cheers!

Here are my contributions:Trump Strategies for Real Estate by George Ross.

This is an excellent and easy read and highlights why Donald Trump is so much more successful in real estate than many of his competitors. It contains real examples of some of Trump`s successes.

Flipping Confidential... The Secrets of Renovating Property for Profit in Any Market
by Kirsten Kemp.

You may know Kirsten from TLC`s "Property Ladder". She is an experienced renovator, and has written this no nonsense book with lots of great ideas and suggestions.

Investing in Fixer-Uppers
by Jay P. DeCima

An interesting read with many stories and ideas, including one humourous story about using a new Mustang convertible to pay off a second mortgage.

Not real estate related:

Mentored by a Millionaire... Master Strategies of Super Achievers
by Steven K. Scott

You may not know Scott`s name, but you definitely have seen his infomercials on TV. The book is full of exercises to help you develop your plan of action and make it work for you.
