Just curious if anyone has switched to a cheaper product than drywall since the new tariff was introduced, or if we need to just accept it and move forward.
I just checked Homedepot.ca..it's still 7.49 per 4X8 sheet. When does the tariff kick in? I haven't seen it increase by 276% yet, as stated in one article I read.
Drywall is imported ? Why is there a tariff ?
Local home builders Assc is humping this story hard. Already "news" articles: "it's affecting the housing market!" (That article quoted $800 increase in drywall ing a house cost)... No, it isn't. Affecting some trades within? Sure.
An addition of $2,500 in drywall costs (if it was that high) is $125 needed for a down payment, and $9 in monthly mortgage. Roughly.
In Edmonton, at Home depot, 4X8 sheets of the half inch is under a supply constraint...you can only buy 50 sheets at a time now.
