Just curious if anyone has switched to a cheaper product than drywall since the new tariff was introduced, or if we need to just accept it and move forward.

Drywall is imported ? Why is there a tariff ?
It's already in place where I live. Being a carpenter, it has a huge impact on the jobs we do. Jobs we had already started are now going to be over budget. It's not at the full increase yet but it's gone up to $14.50 a sheet.
Yes it's imported, the US has been dumping product into Canada at lower rates than it can be produced locally. REIN posted an article about it on Facebook today if your interested.
Local home builders Assc is humping this story hard. Already "news" articles: "it's affecting the housing market!" (That article quoted $800 increase in drywall ing a house cost)... No, it isn't. Affecting some trades within? Sure.
An addition of $2,500 in drywall costs (if it was that high) is $125 needed for a down payment, and $9 in monthly mortgage. Roughly.

I'm no scientologist but I'm gonna say,... More than $9 but less than you probably think.

Good point. I don't think there's a cheaper alternative that works as well anyways.
