80% of Financial Advisers invest in real estate

Hi Erwin, We are finding that most people we meet who are Independent Financial Advisors are asking more about RE as well as have at least 1 properties themselves. Would love to see a report or any information that you have on this to help with clients.

Cost of entry into where all the fish are!

Thanks for all the replies from everyone. In my heart I know that I am progressing - it's just taking time. We concentrate hard on being educators and motivators for everyone over here in the Maritimes but it is hard to stay motivated yourself when the progress is slow.

Cost of entry into where all the fish are!

Very, very thought provoking Todor and thanks for the comments. Hoping to come over to ON next year and bug you about your accounts again ;) Working on charitable donations from our REI group in Halifax as well - interesting that you bring it up as we feel strongly about giving back and now is...

Cost of entry into where all the fish are!

Thanks Wade for the "follows" and kind words about what we are doing over in the East. We always enjoy reading your information and certainly look to you as someone we want to be similar to. I guess I should re-visit the sphere of influence and get somewhat strategic and make a better plan!!

Cost of entry into where all the fish are!

Another investor and I got talking after thanksgiving about how to go where all your potential JV partners (the "fish") are. Both he and I are frustrated with the length of time it is taking to get some "bites" on the hook. The conversation got round to where all the fish are and where they...

    Property analyzer

Try the free REMA download as it also uses the REIN goldmine scorecard as well. Many people also have spreadsheets a plenty that they use but I like REMA. http://www.remacanada.ca/index.php?option=com_docman&Itemid=4

    The Same 4 Cats

I think that the 4 cats + Adam provide some of the most valuable, straight forward advice that we can get at and for me they are usually the first posts that I read as I know if they have weighed in then it is worth reading. To post a reply to some of the topics it has to be a good question /...

Canadian Real Estate Magazine Investor Forum: Interview Series

Hi Wade, Is there any chance of a replay for us guys who are in the office and get "blocked" from this sort of streaming due to excessive band width usage that it takes? For me it is either this or concentrating on the family!! Both take precedence! Pretty please???

    Changing Management Companies

Not for us in Halifax but common courtesy means that we tell them yes. Do the tenants pay the PM company the rents as that would mean that they should definitely know to write cheques to the new PM company?

    Changing Management Companies

Standard business terms and conditions usually have 30 days notice in them. Have you checked your contract that you signed with them? Or didn't you have one?

    Advertising - Which is better?

It would also depend on your market. In ON most tenants pay their own utilities, in Halifax NS they want it included in the rent. Would $200/mth cover the utilities if you pay them or would the tenant feel that is too much and therefore pass on your rental unit? Like Thomas says - try both and...

    How do you stay motivated?

I find that my wife keeps me motivated - she continually keeps us both on track and focussed on whats important to get us to our goals and the "belieze". Which by the way is on my left right now so I can look at it for visual motivation!! One other thing I do if I am really questioning it all...

    Blackberry or iphone

There is an app called Property Evaluator Pro on the iPhone. You can't get it on the BlackBerry but it does property analysis on the go and will even email you a pdf of the report. I think there is an online service as well that (not totally sure so research it first!!) sync's up as well. I...

    Downloadable monthly meetings audio?

It would be much quicker for us out on the East coast as well!! Mine seem to take 3-4 weeks to arrive after the meeting date. By then, the next one is taking place. Save CD creating costs, postage, time etc. Make sense to me. I can also second the issue with titles - frustrating to type them...

    Property Tracker VS REMA

I use property tracker on the iPhone as you can analyse quickly. I go with Adam though and use Excel as it creates all my JV presentation pack as well on the property

REIN email or full time membership?

I would agree that by attending the meetings you will definitely get more action taken and support along the way. I live in Nova Scotia and subscribe via post to the REIN membership and the only reason I am not a full time member is because of the travel. Russell was lucky in being able to...
