Another `WHY` You Should Join

Yes, I know there are so many `why should I join REIN` posts with very difinitive answers, but here is one main reason for me at least.

Aside from the obvious content and great speakers each and every month, it comes down to the positive energy and support received from people that have been through the same thing you have or are currently going through.

The hardest part of being in such a small percentile is lack of support in your every-day life from your every-day best friends and family. And they do that unintentionally most of the time.

For me personally, and I know many of my good friends at the meetings will agree, each month is a "re-charge"; a reminder and boost of confidence that we ARE doing the right thing and it will all work in the end.

To me - THIS is a major sell to why joining REIN is a no-brainer.

It was fantastic to see everyone last night again and I appreciate the people I spoke to - you lifted my spirits just listening to your success and challenges over time as well.

Hi Joey

I agree
It helps keep you focused and motivates you to move forward - whether seeing through a current problem and not selling the property or to continue expanding.

There are plenty of good posts and superb testimonials from members that have joined and continue there growth with properties and wealth.
My question to members would be what is your opinion on joining if you do not intend to continue to grow with time. What if your intention is to own 2,3 or maybe 5 units and then stop.

Should you join and then stop being a member when you are finished investing in growth or should you not join at all and simply learn as much as you can from communicating, reading and generally educating yourself. Using Don`s book as a example.
Or maybe you would continue as a member simply for the value of the comradery of the group (expensive if you do not intend to use the resources).

Should ones long term investment plans effect your valuation of a system such as REIN.

Good question Greg,
I`ve been a REIN member for almost two years. Over that time we have been able to grow our business and we continue to do so with some of the people we have met at REIN. We have met some great people and you are right the comradery of the group has some great value.
The folks that stick around and continue to stay members long after they achieved what have set out do I think comes down to one thing. They have been there before and want to give back to those that seek the help and guidance.

Greg it seems your only measuring stick of such an organization is money spent.
What about spending time with other like minded people?

I`m a member of a road cycling club that is primarily a racing club, its not an exercise club and not a touring club - its hard core racing. Last season I only competed in one race and finished poorly, mostly due to several difficult injuries (like getting smoked by a car) I still enjoy going out and training with the club - why?
Because I`m around people that get it just like me.
I like to be around people that push themselves.

Those are great answers from Ed and Greg...Greg

My intention is to have a few more than 5 or 6, but in the end give back to what helped me get there. I`ve been an entrepreneur my entire life and know the value of like-minded people, networking, giving back and having the knowledge of those whom have gone before you.

Really, if you are at your level of success, you just can`t stop or your brain will die. Imagine the stimulation it needed to get you there and to starve yourself of that would be difficult imo.

That`s why I posted this in the first place. Aside from all the great information and resources, the speakers, the member bonuses etc, it comes down to immediate, unbiased support from a large group of `friends`.

I hope one day we can meet, you have been a very large contributor to this board.

Just to add my 2 cents. REIN membership is mostly about what you make out of it.

Two nights ago they were again talking about "showing up with an agenda" to all of your meetings and life in general.

The group is large enough, dedicated and diverse enough, to support one`s growth, learning, networking and giving back in different stages of one`s investing career or life in genera IMO.

I agree Joe. Most days it feels like you are swimming upstream, going against the grain of society. It is wonderful to be with like-minded individuals who are always willing to share. Never the scarcity mentality. REIN members are some of the most inspiring people I have in my life.

It is always so refreshing to attend a meeting...just seems like they are too far apart sometimes

I haven`t been to a REIN meeting - to much on the go but... I am planning to go again this year. Also, I love listening to the CDs of meetings.
But you know for me, this forum is a big draw. First of all I learn so much. The discussions are great. Even better for me, this is a place to spout my opinions and get excellent feedback. This is truly a joy because 99% of the time we`re staying civil and respectful of each other. There are not many places you find that. Just go to the Globe and Mail comments and see how long you can stand following that. Spending five minutes on the G&M forum makes you really appreciate REIN`s.

Hi guys,
One aspect that we don`t do very well is explaining other benefits that some members might not use because they don`t understand them (our fault) or don`t know about them (again, our fault). With the size of our group we are continually "going to bat" with service providers to negotiate deals for the membership. Now, some of these are really great and others need some tweaking, but IF you use the services negotiated you can more than make up for your membership costs with the savings you receive.

I can tell you that some members save more than double their membership costs each month just with the insurance programs we have in place for members - both home owners and rental - I personally use both.

I apologize as I don`t know more on the brand new extended health and dental program for members, just launched this week, but from my understanding it is a very solid program with far better coverage than most...and it will only get better.

The Rona discount - well some members just don`t like the store and others do so much business they have their own "pro ad" card, but for other members it equates to additional savings. I use the `pro ad` card in BC for my own home renos, I save 10% on most items I purchase and there are the catalog items that have a nice discount as well. On average I save $20-40 each month for regular purchases.

Credit Info Canada, TVS and Rent Check Corp all have REIN discounts for tenant checks, credit checks, criminal checks, etc all at substantial discounts. Credit Info Canada also has a collections service and from members I`ve talked to it has been great for them.

Dominion Lending (Peter Kinch) also works very hard to secure REIN only mortgage products - some on the table now, with success, and others coming.

If you use the services provided you can certainly save money every month and we will continue to get other service providers on board. Even with 5 properties it is often cheaper to stay a member than to lose the discounts...and this is only from a dollars and cents perspective. I know we are working on car insurance right now with some other ideas on the go.

Further, even if you only purchase 5 properties and stop you are potentially holding upwards of $1,000,000 worth of assets. By being a member you are staying focused on the business you have, keeping up to date with what is going on in that business and maintaining key relationships to manage your business - some investors become complacent, lose the plot and end up "putting out fires" instead of keeping ahead.

Just a different perspective to keep in mind.

Happy Investing!

And I nearly forgot this one - FREE bug identification, easily worth $Hundreds!

... need to master bug elimination

The Rona one I don`t get, I shop a lot at Rona and am on their program, I`ve seen their paperwork but can in no way identify their savings or benefits.

Good input Ray. I was personally not aware of most of the services/financial benefits provided by REIN.

Are you trying to scare us away with your new photo?
