Attending workshop as guest?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at attending the Ontario REIN workshop (this Thursday) as a guest, but am a bit apprehensive because I'm not entirely sure what I'll get out of it. I have read Don's books a few times over and am motivated to start investing in real estate.

While I believe that it would be beneficial to attend (as opposed to simply not attending), would it be better to attend as a guest after I already have a property or more and continue studying/applying the books this month?

Looking at the speaker line-up, I'm excited about attending, but I'd like some feedback from those who have been at this point in their investment experience.

Thanks very much,

Bobby

Hello,

In my opinion, you will be better off attending before you purchase. You will probably learn beneficial information that can help you when the time comes to purchase a property.

Don't discount the fact that you will be in a room full of people that (in one form or other) already invest in Real Estate. It will be a great networking opportunity. Have some questions ready. The REIN group is a helpful, giving group. Many people will share experiences and help you with your questions. Even if you only meet a REIN realtor that can help facilitate your first purchase, your time will have been well spent.

As a personal example, I have yet to purchase a multi-family property. I still attend sessions and ask questions to learn so when the time comes, I will feel a little more comfortable with the process`

Join if you are serious in building networth through real estate and if you have some money to invest or want to learn how to attract JV capital. It is a life changing series of teachings and it takes a while to absorb. Kind of like going to university: in theory you could get all the knowledge by reading books as most knowledge is in books, yet universities all over the world on any subject still exist, as it is experiential learning, and because it is complex it takes a year or two to grasp all the concepts.

Don't join if you wish just edutainment i.e. expect to not actually doing s.th. Watch TV instead then (as it is cheaper) and do noting and lament the fact that the world is not fair and that you will retire with no money like 80% of the non-active investing (and perhaps too much TV watching) population. Investing is a skill that takes a while to learn and a life time to master. I am still learning, although I know far more today than a decade and a half ago when I started with a single condo for $80,000.

Thomas should be kinder on the TV watchers of the world.

They read REINspace too and have feelings.

Bobby you will find hundreds of people who are happy to provide hundreds of different perspectives on investment real estate.

Some, like my self, love to talk.

Find me on Thursday if you have any questions.

I used to love TV .. and occasionally use it to record shows or the odd sport event and play without ads. In the multi-channel universe the average show quality has gone down a lot over the last decade or so. I watched CNN the other day and Anderson Cooper repeated three times in a perhaps 45 minute news show - for over 10 minutes (almost 25% of the content) - about the flight to China from Malaysia that disappeared and that they did not know anything. This is "news" ? But I guess that it is why it is called the "news" and not the "importants". I guess TV is like eating popcorn: it is good junk food once in a while to enjoy, but not too much of it, please.

I would have replied sooner but I was watching TV...

Just kidding, thanks for the responses everyone. After lurking on these forums for a while, it seems as though many are very willing to help out all levels of investor. I thought that, this being a seminar, people would be there taking notes (as I plan to) and as a result, less table chatter and more of a lecture would result. I'm happy with that, I'm simply looking to get a better feel of what to expect from the workshop so I don't end up lost after a couple of minutes.

Thanks again Blaine, Thomas and Adam for your collective insights.

" Don't join if you wish just edutainment"

That's right Thomas Beyer the meetings aren't edutainment or bread and circuses! They are serious 'university study' for investors and that's what serious investors want.

I love how at the last meeting Don spoke about the "Ladders of Success"....and he had a ladder and went up it step by step! It was amazing and had everyone glued to the stage. It was hilarious!

And the insights are amazing.

We were taught that when you are going to choose a tenant you should do an "employment check" to make sure they have a job to pay the rent! Awesome!

Incredible insight.

Thomas Beyer are you going to be a the Toronto Conference to talk about buying your condos? I think the people in Toronto should look into your latest development and the April conference is a great chance for you to meet investors and get them to buy your amazing latest development.
